Finding Fire is a collection of home demos, phone recordings, and improvisations recorded from 2008-2018 made available to benefit Casa Ruby, an LGBTQ bilingual and multicultural organization serving the Washington, D.C. area. 100% of the proceeds from these recordings will go to benefit this truly special and essential organization.
from Casa Ruby:
"Casa Ruby is the only LGBTQ bilingual and multicultural organization in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area that provides social services and programs catering to the most vulnerable in the city and surrounding areas. The idea behind the formation of a transgender women of color run and led organization came almost 30 years ago when Ruby Corado arrived in Washington, D.C., and there were no services to support her needs as a young transgender Latina immigrant. Her drive and dream was to bring resources to historically underserved and under resourced communities in order to create more success stories for transgender and queer folks.
Ruby Corado and a group of friends started Casa Ruby in Washington D.C. by organizing and building a community in parks, churches, and businesses, often facing discrimination and rejection. Despite severe adversity, Ruby and friends persevered, and their efforts led to the creation of Casa Ruby Inc.
In June 2012, Ruby Corado, with the help of a group of volunteers, opened the first Casa Ruby Center located in the area of Howard University in Washington, D.C. Today, Casa Ruby employees almost 50 people, providing more than 30,000 social and human services to more than 6,000 people each year.
Casa Ruby LGBTQ Community Center has a slogan of being “Everyone’s Home,” implying that it is not only limited to LGBTQ populations, but also their families and the larger community."
